Cooper

Cooper is a gorgeous dog who lives up my road.

He has a pretty cool hair style.

You can see my set up here – a small sewing-machine table (big machine, just out of shot, small built on table), threads and light pouring in from the window. Imagine me hunched over the sewing machine for hour after hour, sewing and looking up at the image, back down to the work, and up again. If I’m in the flow, I can keep sewing as I look up – though I have to be very careful with my fingers – there’s no safety guard! I used think of it as a fast and furious process because the machine can go super fast (and it does, but only when I’m winding on a bobbin). In fact I once filmed myself sewing, and watching it back, I was surprised at how often I looked up at the image on the screen, and how slowly I was going. What I think of as fast and furious, is only fast and furious when you compare it to hand sewing. It is in practice quite a laborious process – there are many, many layers there.
