
Scrivener was one of my early portraits nearly 9 years ago. I’ve got a lot better since then, as happens when you stick at something, and practise and practise, but I have always loved, and still do love that early work. I fell for the cat, and loved his image ever since. It is my headshot on Instagram still – or rather, it is the shot, that means I don’t have to put my own head on display on Instagram, and I am grateful to him.

So, when I started work on a group of animal heads for my upcoming exhibition, I felt the pull back to Scrivener. And I am very glad I gave in.

Here we are, right at the start. And there is a lot about this starting sketch phase that reminds me of the earlier picture. Then the layers go down.
